'06 "Ramen Quartet" - Lunch at Santouka

Shio Ramen with pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake and seaweed. (part of my set) **This ramen was great. I know that shio is supposed to be a clear, transparent chicken broth, but the milkiness and richness from this soup reminded me of Tonkotsu broth, which is made out of pork bones. It really surprised me because I was expecting a thinner soup, but what I got inside was rich and hearty soup that definitely gave me the wonderful warm fuzzies.

Not "ramen noodle soup" typically encountered in the US. This is the good stuff. =) Ramen (ラーメン, らめん, or 拉麺, rāmen?, IPA: [ɺaːmeɴ]) is a Japanese noodle dish of Chinese origins. It is served with a variety of toppings, such as sliced pork (チャーシュー chāshū), seaweed, kamaboko, green onions and even corn. Almost every locality, or prefecture, in Japan has its own variation of ramen, from the tonkotsu ramen of Kyūshū to the miso ramen of Hokkaidō. (From Wikipedia) Filed as: 20061202_121640_0716

Set #8 (Chibi tonkotsu ramen with special pork) + flavored egg. Taken at Santouka in Torrance, CA, in the Mitsuwa shopping plaza. Santouka is apparently a famous ramen chain in Japan, and they are just opening branches here in the US.

After a morning's work picking and eating strawberries, we stopped off at a Chinese style ramen shop in Naruto. The char siew tonkotsu ramen was really tasty, and the char siew really disappeared in the mouth. Yum. Was a bit too full so my sis ate most of it. Haha.
