Curry-Katsu with rice and salad - Momotaro AUD12

The authentic Japanese food is always yummy at Momotaro! Probably one of the best tonkotsu ramen in town with their milky pork-bone soup and chewy yet smooth noodles! I keep forgetting to get the vegetables on a separate plate though, they interfere with my slurping of the noodles :) The Curry Katsu with rice was a bit strange. The curry was packed with lentils and actually quite nice with rice, but it didn't seem to go well with the crisp breaded pork cutlet. Phil wanted to try the Teriyaki Chicken. That was good too, with a rich, sweet sauce that wasn't too sweet, but it lacked the smokiness of the teriyaki chicken at Don Don. I really have to learn how to fix the white-balance problems with my Nikon D60 though. I think in No Flash mode, the White Balance is set to default :( Momotaro Rahmen 392 Bridge Rd Richmond 3121 (03) 9421 1661

Premium pork ramen with tonkotsu (pork bone) stock and handmade noodles, $9.95 for small size which is actually quite substantial. Topped with thin tender slices of pork belly, cabbage, green onions, slivered carrots and no bamboo shoots (yay!).\ www.chow.com/places/20027 Ajisen, Fremont

Tofu Steak - Momotaro Rahmen AUD6

Another day, and yummy Japanese meal at Momotaro! We decided to try a clear shio-style soup (shio means salt) this time, and it was very tasty too! This ramen included a big wad of wakame seaweed and slices of lean chashu pork. We also got a small tofu steak as a side dish. Nice firm tofu with a enoki mushroom and carrot sauce, which a a bit gluggy, but still flavoursome. One of the reasons we avoided getting a second bowl of noodles is so that we could try the dessert! We never managed to get through to dessert! This time, we managed to get the Green Tea Crepe Layer Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream. The green tea ice cream was smooth, creamy and enough of the green tea bitterness to make it authentic. The cake itself was good, but the layers of green tea cream seemed to make the crepes soggy and not as chewy as I had liked. Perhaps that is the way it is meant to be, soft and creamy, rather than chewy. Momotaro Rahmen 392 Bridge Rd Richmond 3121 (03) 9421 1661
