The first stop for today is the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum. However, it's a bit of a long bus ride from the Mount Fuji area, so we stopped here for a breather. Day Five set here. Entire Japan collection here.

Orochon Ramen- Little Tokyo, Los Angeles First you choose from miso, salt, or soy soup bases, next you decide on the the heat level (7 the weakest, Special 2 the hottest) and then you add the extra ingredients, etc. If you can eat the Special 2 under 30 minutes your ramen is free and you get your picture posted on the wall of honor.

750 yen overall 7.5/10 This ramen shop serves quite creative ramen. First of all, soup colour is black. Ingredient is not squid (cuttlefish) ink. The black soup is from blend of various miso mixed with ink (carbon). Taste is also spicy from various spice. Miso is the Japanese food definitly, but I felt that soup in this ramen bowl above is not Japanese cuisine, ex) like mongolian or yunnan cuisine, in sence of mixture of chinese and spicy flavour, and herbal taste arrangenment. It is hard to say the taste definitively, but simply saying, I express taste of this ramen bowl is herval dandan ramen with few chille pepper. This shop's main ramen cheff has a backgroud as French cuisine cheff and Japanese cuisine cheff, so that total taste of ramen bowl may be well tuned with createve fashion based on confident cooking skills. In lunch time, this shop serves small rice or 1.5 times noodle for free. So, I ordered rice. after eating ramen noodle, I enjoyed soup with rice. Taste is absolutely fantastic! Seafood Udon Soup

I've been seeing excellent looking Japanese Ramen noodle soup for ages on Bobby Stokes' stream and finally went looking for some of my own in Melbourne. haven't found Ramen yet, but found cheap, tasty Udon soup. I haven't a clue whether it is "genuine" "authentic" Japanese (or that it really matters) - but it was full of seafood and tasted great - so I'm happy. I still have to find a Ramen with an egg in it though! Small cafe on corner of LaTrobe St & King St, Melbourne, 3000.

網地島家」の雲丹みそらーめん(味噌味 辛し雲丹みそ団子、味玉子トッピング)。 麺は隠れていますが、太麺です。ウマウマでしたぁ。 いつもながら店内で写真を撮るというのはニガテ。焦って何を撮っているのかわからなくなるから(笑)困ったちゃんですな...。

A bowl of tonkotsu ramen soup. The taste of this version of ramen comes from slow-cooked porkbones (which is what tonkotsu means), to produce a pork soup that's very smooth and fatty. Coffee was fine. Coffee in Japan is generally not bad.

Gyoza! Ramen!

I saw a special on gyoza and really started to want some... so Masami and I went to "Gaba", a ramen shop in Aeon Mall. There we split tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen, had a plate of gyoza each, and some mentaiko rice (I didn't have much, not a huge mentaiko fan). ご馳走様!
